Reverend Shinko Rick Slone is a priest and lineage holder in the Soto Zen Buddhist tradition of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi. He trained in residence for fifteen years at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center and Green Gulch Farm Zen Center.
For seven years he was the teacher for the Mountain Source Sangha, a collection of lay Buddhist groups in the San Francisco Bay area. During this time he was also Mission Director of Dorothy’s Place Hospitality Center, a Hospitality Center, Soup Kitchen and Emergency Women’s Shelter in Salinas, CA.
For one year he was priest-in-residence at Mar de Jade; a resort and retreat center in Nayarit, Mexico.
He is now very happy to be the founding teacher of Karuna Buddhist Sangha, here in River Falls, Wisconsin.
Reverend Rick studied Classical Guitar Performance at California State University at Northridge, and had the opportunity to participate in master classes with Manuel Barrueco, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, and Oscar Ghiglia, among others. Maestro Ghiglia’s words, upon hearing Rick play, “He’s a serious young man, and all this music comes out.” Reverend Rick is not so young anymore.
